Lookbook | From Chemotherapy to Glam

I'm coming to the end of my ovarian cancer journey. I've had a hysterectomy and I've almost completed my 6mos of Chemotherapy. This has been an emotional time for me, I've have times when my mind went into some very dark places and have had to rely on family to bring me into the light again. Prayer and lots of support has gotten me through this diagnosis and I can say with a warm heart that it has taught me a lot about my self as well as my pain and tolerance levels. Am I cancer free? I sure hope so! My CA 125 levels are almost down to "0" from being in the low 100's and I've done everything I possibly could to aid the chemo in healing my body.

Lookbook | Mac Reflex Bronze Glitter

For this look I used Sugarpill Burning Heart Quad.  I used all for colors and I think you can clearly see the placement of each of the eyeshadows. I applied my Jordana Cat Eyeliner in 07 Suede which is a blue/purple but it came out really blue in the photos.  For pigment, I used Mac Reflex Bronze Glitter which is a really pretty bronze, but again it looks gold in the photos.  I did not use flash at all, I recently purchased the Sony a5000 because a lot of girls on IG use it and I like their photos. I'm still playing around with the ISO settings adjusting them higher or lower. I also use the setting "P" for portrait so that I can have "AF" automatic focus which is crucial for taking close self photos.

Lookbook | Urban Decay Electric Palette | Instagram

This is a look that I created for Instagram with the Urban Decay Electric Palette.  The colors are actually very vibrant, I'm just learning how to use my new camera.  I have the Sony a5000 and it's really like a DSLR where I have to adjust all the settings and learn how to use it without using the flash.  Hopefully the photos will become more "true to color" as I go along and get better at it!

Lookbook | Fall Makeup Tutorial | #beautyover50

My goal with these tutorials and videos is to highlight makeup and how it enhances the skin specifically for women of color. I like my natural beauty but I also like feeling beautiful and seeing how makeup enhances my looks instead of changing my look totally. The video tutorial below gives you a step by step play of this tranformation!

Lookbook | Featuring Urban Decay Moondust Pigments

It's been a minute since I did a lookbook post, this was partly because the small camera I was using decided to lose focus so I finally threw it out and purchased a Sony a5000. I'm still trying to figure out the settings.... do I use flash.... don't use flash..... indoor lighting... etc.... hopefully I will get it right because I love creating different looks and photographing them.

Lookbook | Unapologetic for the Melanin That Runs Through My Veins

This is me..... i'm 56 and unapologetic for being a beautiful black melanin gal that has no real visible signs of aging like forehead wrinkles, fine lines around my eyes, smile lines or sagging jowls. This photo might not be the best quality because it was taken with my iPhone right before I left to go to the gym..... i'm not wearing any foundation as some of the women at my gym think that I am. I'm wearing concealer underneath my eyes which I set with a setting powder, eyebrow pencil, a few individual eyelashes, mascara and some liquid lipstick. Oh.... I have permanent eyeliner tattooed on the top and bottom of my lids so that it looks like I'm wearing eyeliner when I'm not.  So why am I venting here..... because I don't like confrontation with other women that are jealous of me because I don't look like them. I go to the gym at the same time everyday from 1pm - 3pm Mon - Fri.  I apply the same face routine as you see in this cell phone pic everyday, I wear the same wig and always braid it to the side... sometimes I apply a liquid lipstick and sometimes I apply a chapstick. I take photos almost daily and occasionally post them to my IG page... something that I like to do. Well, if you frequent the same spot day after day... you're bound to get noticed by those that frequent the same spot also.  Sometimes I make eye contact with someone as I pass them by and smile and sometimes I may have to ask someone if they're still using a certain machine..... but it doesn't mean that i'm flirting or trying to steal your man! So when someone walks up to me and ask how long I've known so and so... or ask if so and so has asked for my number.... I'm completely dumbfounded! The gym is my place of solitude.... I workout wearing my earphones so that I won't be bothered. I don't know anyone at my gym by name and I certainly don't go out of my way to talk to people at my gym. I'm very focused and into my workout and when I'm finished I might sit in the sauna or just leave.... just depends on how bad my body aches.  So with all this said... don't single me out because I don't look like you... and because you're insecure in your own skin.... because I'm unapologetic for the Melanin that runs through my veins.

Lookbook | My Natural Hair and Why I Love Wearing Wigs

It's been a very long time since I showed my natural hair in a blog post.... honestly I just never think about it and that's really the only reason.  My life revolves around my wigmaking business WigWeaves LLC. I have a patent for the Lace Wig Strap which I sell worldwide through Amazon and my website http://lacewigstraps.com.  I also maintain a second blog dedicated to Wigmaking at http://wigweaves.com.  I'm very hand's on with my YouTube channel, I make lots of videos that involves wigmaking tutorials, demonstrating the straps or giving wigmaking tips.  My channel is very popular because of wigmaking but I feel a little disappointed that it has never taken off for beauty because at 56yrs old, I feel that I have a lot of great beauty advice.

Lookbook ~ Featuring Tom Ford Savage Blush + Urban Decay 15Yr Anniversary Palette + #gymselfie

Right after I did this makeup look I hit the gym... and well the rest is history! I took the IG #gymselfie pic on the right just after I finished working out and as you can see I totally wiped off almost all of my makeup.... but I still wear it everyday to the gym except for foundation.  I have been wearing this Tom Ford Savage Blush all week, it gives me just a wash of color on the cheeks for a little glow... and no highlighter is needed at all unless you want that extra glow.

Lookbook ~ Featuring Sephora LE Truly Outrageous Eyeshadow Palette

over 50 Beauty Blogger | womenofcolor |brownskin
This was my first time playing with the new Sephora Truly Outrageous Eyeshadow Palette which was as limited edition palette. I was truly amazed to find how pigmented these colors were.  I didn't swatch this palette because it was limited edition but the colors are simple gorgeous.  I think it is still on the Sephora website until they sell out so if you like these vibrant colors, then be sure and pick it up before they sell out.

Lookbook ~ Featuring Guerlain Limited Edition Terra Bronzer

mature | over 50 Beauty Blogger | womenofcolor |brownskin

This is my last Lookbook post for 2015 and as you can imagine, I'm so behind on Lookbook posts because i've been spending 2hrs in the gym everyday.  While I don't wear any real face or eye makeup to the gym, I do wear individual eyelashes and eyeliner.  There's something about looking in the mirror when you're working out and seeing sexy eyes staring back at you.

Lookbook ~ Featuring Mac Moon is Blue Pigment from Magic of the Night 2015 Holiday Collection

Mac Moon is Blue Pigment

I created this look using this very gorgeous blue eyeshadow pigment from the Magic of the Night holiday 2015 collection which just launched from Mac.  This shadow which is just packed with color.  If you haven't picked up any of these shadows yet, I would highly recommend getting some, there's only 5 shadows in this collection and I purchased them all. Get Physical is from the MACificant collection which launched just before the holiday collection. I added a little glitter from bh Cosmetics in the inner corner which doesn't show up with my Sony Cybershot camera. I have a huge swatch fest coming this weekend of the 10 pigment eyeshadows that I picked up from both collections so stay tuned!

Virgin Indian Hair from @Salonlabs

I received some very beautiful hair from Salonlabs to review on my YT Channel and to also make a wig with.  So i'm showing you the completed wig here along with the makeup I did to compliment the very dark hair that i'm not use to wearing.  I wrote a post on my Wigmaking Blog all about the hair and how it preforms with lot of photos of the wig, to read that post Click Here.

Lookbook ~ Featuring KVD Mi Vida Loco Palette

KVD Mi Vida Loco Palette

I wanted this post to be an outfit collaboration also but I didn't have time to set my camera up on the tripod and take photos outside.  I was wearing a very pretty pink ruffled skirt with matching pink strappy sandals by Coach.  This is my first time playing around with the KVD Mi Vida Loca palette and I really like it.  The only difference in the photo is the mac lipstick. I ultimately went with KVD Bauhaus Liquid Liquid but forgot to switch out the lipstick in the photo.

Lookbook ~ Featuring Sephora Black Magic Palette

Featuring Sephora Black Magic Palette

The weather is finally cooling down here in Los Angeles so I though why not play in makeup. I've only been wearing powder foundations all summer and I've really been showing them some much needed love. I set my concealer with the Sacha Buttercup pressed powder, this is a favorite among the women of color gurus on YT.  I will be reviewing it along with the Buttercup pressed powder shortly.

Lookbook ~ Birthday Makeup I Turned 56 today!

Birthday Makeup I Turned 56 today!

I turned 56 today and this was my makeup that I wore out to dinner tonight with my family.  Every birthday I like to play in makeup and take lot of photos just to see how I have aged from the year before.  I had my eyelids done as you know so I look drastically younger than I did last year.

Lancome Dual Finish Foundation Powders

In spite of the hot weather her in Los Angeles where I live, I manage to wear makeup today because I had a function to go to.

Lookbook ~ One Makeup Look Three Different Hair Choices

mature | over 50 Beauty Blogger | #womenofcolor |#brownskin

As you know by now that i'm about 13 weeks post-op from my upper eyelid surgery. Every week my eyelid changes. If you compared these photos to my last weeks photos, you will see entirely different lids.  They probably won't settle into their new shape for about six months.  Because i'm still stretching the skin above the right eyelid, that eye will always look different in photos until the skin settles.
