Life throws curve balls when you least expect it. When I look at these photos I'm amazed at how far I've come. At this time last year (2016) I was diagnosed with Stage 2 High-Grade Serious Carcinoma Ovarian Cancer and having a hysterectomy. Then after 6 weeks of healing I would begin six months of chemotherapy. Now that I have been in remission for 6 months and my energy levels are back 100% I feel great and I'm back to lifting heavy like I was prior to the diagnosis. I wrote about all the things that I was doing to stay in remission, I call it my Ovarian Cancer Protocol and you can read about it here.

I just had my body fat tested and I am at 24% body fat. My current weight is 142 lbs. I am 5'6" tall and I'm 57 years old. My goal is to build more sexy muscle and lean out a little more.  I'm thinking about doing a fitness competition at some point in the future, I've always wanted to do one but when I was a flight attendant my schedule was kind of wonky. I would fly 11 day international trips and come home and sleep for 2 days. I just couldn't get my rhythm going enough to build muscle back then. So this is something that has always been on my bucket list.

My diet is very much on point. I'm consuming around 1700-2000 calories a day. I am eating more protein, vegetables and grains and only having an 8oz serving of fruit daily which I use for my protein smoothies.  I have made some tremendous progress in my upper body. I take swimsuit photos every month in my backyard to keep track of my progress.  I still have too much body fat to compete. My body fat levels would have to be down to about 5% in order to walk across the stage. Most of the fat loss comes during prep, which is weeks before the competition. They diet down and do about 4 hrs of cardio a day to sweat off the body fat.

My biggest problems in the gym is pain from the effects of chemo. I have joint pain and leg pain which makes lifting difficult sometimes. I sit in the sauna after every workout, sit in my portable home Jacuzzi about 4x's a week and I use massive amounts of muscle/pain relief creams. I've opted not to take any meds for this because I'm doing weekly just fasting to rid my body of the toxins that have built up from the chemo. I suspect that it will take about a year before all the pain is gone so next January (2018) I will assess my pain levels and see if I'm ready to start training for a fitness competition.

I bought these leggings on Amazon for $5.99. They are by the designer Christian Serriano. He has a line of exercise wear that is priced to sell. My Criss Cross Sport's Bra Top is also from Amazon, I've had this one a while but you can find similar here.
