I purchased this Devil's Food lipstick by Mac on a whim. It came out in the Baking Beauties Collection this summer and i've had it for a while now. It's described as a glossy deep plum frost lipstick although it looks brown in color. I normally don't wear these types of colors because they really don't show a contrast, but this lipstick caught my eye because it has subtle red undertones. So I decided to take a chance and order it and see if I could work with it.
Upon opening the package, my first impression was that it was going to be too dark or blend in with my lips, but I was quite surprised. The first thing I did was photograph it at different angles because I was trying to capture the that subtle shimmer that I mentioned.
The texture and application of this frost lipstick is very creamy, it glides on and feels almost like lip gloss. My lips felt very moist while I was wearing it and even though I was just inside my home, my lips never felt chafe like I needed to apply a gloss over it. I'm not really into frost lippies because i've always felt they looked to shiny but I absolutely love this color in a frost.
This lipstick is gorgeous! It has tiny micro shimmers that are actually a deep red in color, I've never seen anything like this before. When I swatched the lipstick on my arm I thought, wow, I can't wait to try it on my lips. If you look real closely at the color you can't really tell if it's a chocolate brown or a red brown.
I searched through my Mac lipstick stash and I just couldn't find anything quite like this. Mac "O" has more bronze, Mac "Bronze Shimmer" has more gold and Mac Strength is more of a rose brown that is absolutely gorgeous. Mac hit this one out of the ball park.
